They spent how much?

So lets face it, our girl Sarah Palin has done it again. Or should I say "her people" have done it again. People are now referring to her "wardrobe of the stars," as a joke, which it pretty much is.

The Republican National Commitee has reportedly spent more then 150,000 at Nieman Marcus and Saks on a campaign makeover, whoa...you could buy many families entire wardrobes with that amount.

I don't know about you guys, but when we are in an economic crisis, somebody had to really not be paying attention when that information leaked. It all comes to down to the fact that: I'm sure they all spent vast amounts of money on thier campiagn attire BUT why could'nt Palin's camp keep it under wraps?

My question is...Did people find this out because it was heavily investigated because we can all honestly say our nation has an unhealthy obesssion with Sarah Palin and exposing her every wrong move. (Not saying its right or wrong) Or could this be due to someone's mishandling of information? You decide.

Call me crazy, but I know I have never heard the amount of any candidate to dates expenditures on clothing...So whats going on here? Are we obsessed with making fun of her every move or is she just making so many that we can't possibly stand to ignore?

Sarah Palin: A Timeline:
In the beginning she did'nt wear many clothes at all...

Then she decided to put them on...and start looking a bit more "governer-ish"...but still "hockey mom-esk," if you will, and I hope you will.

She took the kids home from hockey...made some dinner, glanced out back at Russia and went to bed. She woke up and put on her "governer outfit," and she was out the door!

Today...shes looking super pulled together...WAY TO GO GIRL....But at what cost???
You be the judge.

This totally killed me.

Oh man. We talked about this today after class. according to Vanity Fair (http://www.vanityfair.com/online/politics/2008/09/cindy-mccains-300000-outfit.html) $150,000 for a campaign-long wardrobe is nothing. On the website it has it broke down like this:

Cindy McCain
Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000
Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch: $4,500
Three-carat diamond earrings: $280,000
Four-strand pearl necklace: $11,000–$25,000
Shoes, designer unknown: $600
Total: Between $299,100 and $313,100

Okay. So she's wearing someone's moderate sized McMansion. She's the wife of a presidential candidate, they're supposed to look good and put together as well. It's an outfit FOR A NIGHT. And did I mention, WE'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN ECONOMIC CRISIS?

Campaigns spend way too an extravagant amount already. If instead they distributed the contributions for the campaign towards the National Debt or something of other extreme urgency to the country, we wouldn't be in half the trouble we're in right now. Or we could do something insane like eliminate world hunger for the rest of forever. It blows my mind what a spectacle is made of the election process. People are paying to see candidates "live in concert". Sometimes our entertainment-hypnotized consumerist society grosses me out. It seems that we can't help ourselves to wanting to know every little gruesome detail about someone, and this is where, actually, I come in Sarah Palin's defense.

I don't know if she can actually help what her party spends on her. Please correct me if I'm wrong. And she doesn't even get to keep the clothes when she's done campaigning.

Like I said, everyone is supposed to look good and put together and put off an air of extreme wealth. And for some reason it seems that wealth=power in this country. For even how awful she is, Sarah Palin is no exception.

I think Sarah Palin just gets called out for things every politician does. She is our current media obsession. Pretty much anyone running in this campaign, or anyone related to anyone in this campaign, has some committee out there paying for their wardrobe as a way of "helping".

oh by the way, I almost died laughing when you said, "She took the kids home from hockey...made some dinner, glanced out back at Russia and went to bed."

I think that since Sarah Palin is practically a celebrity now, people are somewhat craving to make her look worse than she already does. But I do admit that she's spending a lot when she's trying to better the economic crisis. However, I feel like what a candidate wears is very important, since it gives us a first impression them. Looking professional to a T is good when it comes to how a candidate presents themselves. And i do admit, what she wears makes herself look presentable. So all in all, i'd say that even if she's spending a lot, she's doing it for the sake of making herself look as professional as she can, and that people are out to get her.

I don't see what the big fuss is. The clothes were probably on loan. It is a fine line these woman have to walk they cant act like fashion is too important but they cant look a mess either. Don't forget she is a beauty queen.
Recently everyone made a big fuss about McCain's five hundred dollar loafers. Well guess what everyone he's rich. If you were rich wouldn't you have a few five hundred dollar pair of shoes. I am not rich now and I have a few three hundred plus pairs of shoes. It is only a small jump from there to five hundred. I think we make too much of all this stuff.

I hadn't heard those numbers before. Wow! I think that is straight up ridiculous. You can find clothes that look just as nice at the mall.

Like everyone else who commented said, during a economic crisis, that is not where that money should go! What a waste...
