Ok guys, while I admire Obama and did chose to vote for him.. one has to wonder what he is thinking. Our president-elect and his advisers are formulating planes to close Guantanamo Bay and bring all the prisonors to the U.S.
The worst part? Many of the detanees would just go free. That's it. No more time in jail for whatever they did that was bad enough to get them sent to Cuba instead of the U.S. I think my biggest problem with this is that Obama and his advisors plan on creating a seperate legal system for the "new" Guantanamo Bay when they rebuild it somewhere in the U.S.
The The American Civil Liberties Union is behind all of this nonesense. While I don't agree with all the crazy stuff that happens over in Cuba, I do think that shipping the bad guys over to the U.S. may not be the best way to go about things. While some of the practices are inhumane and unfair, (disclaimer: I don't agree with torture, but I thought this was amusing) do we really want these guys in a maximum security prison? They need more than that to hold them back, I think. I do feel that the military who sends guys over to Guanatanmo need to have more concrete evidence, we can't argue that they are sent there for no reason either. Most of the records are classified, so who knows whats going on? We need more rules, and for the people who work there to follow the rules (rather than just beating the prisoners), not to close down Guantanamo, but to make it more livable.
So, what do you all think of this?

Wow. I had no idea that Obama is trying to close Guantanamo Bay? That's so crazy. I feel like the prisoners are there for a reason and that they must have done something extremely inhumane to have been sent there. Bringing them to the US would cut them slack! Definitely not a good idea in my opinion. If they are in fact being tortured there, I think that there should be some rules that the guards go by, to lessen the torture. I feel like the torture would only fuel more anger out of the convicts. Imagine a plane full of hostile convicts landing in AMERICA. That's asking for trouble. What is Obama thinking?
God help us. What is he thinking? We have enough anarchists and people who are unhappy with America on our own soil. I really hope congress shoots this down.
I think that its kind of funny that US citizens can't travel to Cuba, a place that I would REALLY REALLY like to visit, but we send our political prisoners there. Obviously it's no picnic for them there, but I mean, we can't even trade with Cuba but we can dictate who we can imprison there? I'm not sure if that makes any sense. I think that maybe if we utilized one of Dick Cheney's underground bunkers or just a government underground bunker in general it could possibly be more American than hosting them in a country we don't really want anything to do with other than Guantanamo. They are OUR enemies after all.
I understand what he is trying to do by closeing Guantanamo Bay. It is a black stain on our reputation. I just dont understand what he plans to do with all the prisioners. I do know a lot are being held with out any charges being filed but I also think that we just dont want the prisioners there released either. If you bring the prisioners to america we will have to give them protection under our constitution and I dont think any of them deserve that! If we release them they will go right back to doing what it was that put them there in the first place. The whole situation is a double edged sword.
Interesting. I was not aware that Obama was planning on doing this. Its not his right do this nor should he be able to. It goes against a lot of political and constitutional ethics. I don't agree with this idea either and I agree with Joanne that it will only fuel more anger and hate and bring more turmoil to America. I have a feeling that Congress is not going to approve of this one.
